Netherlands-based Norfolkline has placed an order for two ro-pax vessels at South Korea«s Samsung Heavy Industries. The vessels will be purpose-built for the operator«s route between Dover, the UK, and Dunkerque, France, where traffic volumes have shown strong growth over the past years. 
 
With a capacity of 120 accompanied trailers, 200 cars and 780 passengers, the vessels will be designed to «completely separate« freight and passenger customer groups.
 
Norfolkline«s new ships will have an approximate overall length of 186 metres, and a 28 metre beam. The GT will be approx. 30,000, while the deadweight of the vessels will be 6,200. A 25-knot service speed will result in a crossing time of 1 hour and 50 minutes.
 

The first of the vessels is scheduled to enter service in July/August 2005, with the second ship following in November/December the same year.
